Auburn Montgomery Outreach proudly announces the winner of the Excellence in Faculty Outreach Award, Dr. Carolyn Thomas

Since 1975, Dr. Thomas has been leading efforts against domestic violence. She began as a member of the Alabama Statewide Domestic Abuse Task Force and helped write the first Public Service Grant to develop awareness of the need for services. In 1979, the Alabama Coalition Against Domestic Violence was created and Dr. Thomas was selected to be the Founding President. This shelter for battered women is now known as the Family Sunshine Center. Through her work with battered women, their families and their abusers, Dr. Thomas has provided a wealth of knowledge to share with her counseling students. The real-life examples and solid research has proven time and time again to be an excellent model for students in counseling. Dr. Thomas currently serves as a Professor and Coordinator of Counselor Education at Auburn Montgomery.
